My First Time in Montreal
Food, Pride, and Everything We Loved

Montreal is a city that blends history, culture, and cuisine in a way that feels effortless. On my first visit, Elliot and I explored its neighborhoods, enjoyed world-class dining, and experienced the city’s vibrant Pride celebrations. Here’s what made the trip so memorable.
Where We Stayed: Hyatt Centric Montreal
Our base was the Hyatt Centric Montreal, located steps from Old Montreal and within easy reach of downtown. The hotel offers modern comfort and a prime location, making it convenient for both sightseeing and evening dining. Staying here allowed us to easily walk to the Old Port, the historic district, and many of the city’s highlights.
Exploring Old Montreal
Old Montreal was very charming. With its cobblestone streets, centuries-old architecture, and lively squares, the area has a distinctly European feel. We spent hours wandering, stopping into cafés for espresso and pastries, and simply enjoying the atmosphere.
A Culinary Destination
Montreal has earned its reputation as one of North America’s top food cities.
The café culture is unmatched, ideal for slow mornings and people-watching.
Classic Montreal bagels live up to their fame.
Brunch and bakeries are an essential part of the experience.
One of our favorite meals was at Ferreira, a Portuguese restaurant where every dish felt thoughtful and flavorful. It was a standout dining experience and a highlight of our trip.
The Crispy Octopus at Ferreira was delicious
Discovering Mile End
We also explored Mile End, a neighborhood known for its creative energy and independent shops. Browsing second-hand stores, boutique shops, and local cafés gave us a different perspective on the city, a blend of bohemian style and modern culture.
Montreal Pride
We were fortunate to experience Montreal Pride during our stay. The celebration was inclusive, joyful, and full of energy. It showcased the city’s welcoming spirit and cultural diversity.

Final Thoughts
Montreal left a lasting impression on us. Between its historic streets, culinary excellence, and cultural vibrancy, the city offers something for every traveler. Staying at the Hyatt Centric gave us an excellent base, and each day brought a new discovery. It is a destination we look forward to returning to, and one I recommend highly to anyone considering a trip.
