Fairmont Nile City Review

Luxury Above Egypt’s Most Famous River

This review is independent and not sponsored

I personally stayed at this property and covered my stay independently, and this article reflects my experience with complete honesty.

Fairmont Nile City Hotel

GOWITHROMEO RATING: 9.2/10
AVG. NIGHTLY RATE: $300

My trip to Egypt was all about finally seeing the pyramids, exploring Cairo, and experiencing one of the world’s most fascinating destinations for the first time.

The Fairmont sits directly on the Nile, and the views quickly became one of my favorite parts of the stay. Cairo can be overwhelming in the best possible way. It’s vibrant, chaotic, historic, and endlessly fascinating. Having a comfortable hotel overlooking the Nile gave me the perfect place to recharge between adventures.

LOCATION

10/10

The Fairmont Nile City sits directly on the Nile in central Cairo and worked extremely well as a base for exploring the city. Cairo International Airport is typically a 30 to 45-minute drive away, depending on traffic. The hotel is approximately 30 to 45 minutes from the Giza Pyramids and the Grand Egyptian Museum, making both easy day trips. Downtown Cairo, the Egyptian Museum, Khan el-Khalili Bazaar, and many of the city’s best restaurants are also within easy reach. For travelers who want a luxury hotel with Nile views while remaining connected to Cairo’s major attractions, the location strikes a strong balance.

AMENITIES

9.6/10

GYM 10/10 The gym is one of the best hotel gyms I’ve used. Located on the upper floors with views of the Nile, it’s bright, spacious, and exceptionally well equipped. There are plenty of treadmills, ellipticals, strength machines, free weights, and equipment for serious lifting, along with dedicated spaces for yoga, Pilates, boxing, and fitness classes. I worked out every day during my stay and never felt limited by the facilities.

SPA - 9/10 Located next to the gym, the spa offers treatment rooms, a hair salon, manicures, pedicures, steam rooms, saunas, whirlpools, and relaxation areas. Through my booking with GoWithRomeo, I received hotel credit that I used toward a haircut and pedicure. Both treatments were excellent, and the staff were professional, attentive, and consistently delivered a high level of service.

POOL - 10/10 The rooftop pool overlooks the Nile and offers some of the best views in the hotel. While it’s not particularly large, it’s a great place to relax between sightseeing, with comfortable loungers, attentive service, and a rooftop bar serving drinks and light bites throughout the day. I found myself gravitating toward the smaller secondary pool, which felt a bit more private and less busy than the main pool area. Both spaces have beautiful views of the river and are a great place to unwind after exploring Cairo.

OTHER The Fairmont offers several excellent dining options, making it easy to spend an entire stay on property. I frequently ordered from Bab El Nil, the hotel’s Egyptian restaurant, and Saigon Restaurant & Lounge, which serves Lebanese and Middle Eastern dishes alongside international favorites. The food was consistently fresh, flavorful, and reasonably priced for a luxury hotel. The property also features the popular rooftop venue L’Uliveto Rooftop, along with several bars and lounges throughout the hotel, creating plenty of options for drinks, dining, and relaxing without ever needing to leave the property.

ROOM

9.5/10

Through my booking with GoWithRomeo, I was able to secure several added hotel benefits, including a complimentary upgrade to a Corner Junior Suite overlooking the Nile. At approximately 75 square meters (807 square feet), the suite felt exceptionally spacious and featured a separate living room with a sofa, dining table, workspace, and floor-to-ceiling windows facing the Nile river. The bedroom was equally comfortable, with a king-size bed and beautiful Nile views, while the bathroom included both a walk-in shower and a soaking tub. There was also a large walk-in closet that made settling in easy. The décor felt classic Fairmont, comfortable and elegant rather than modern, but the size, layout, and views made it one of the highlights of my stay.

BREAKFAST

8/10

Breakfast was served buffet-style with a wide variety of options, including a full egg station, fresh fruit, yogurt, granola, pastries, cold cuts, cheeses, Egyptian specialties, and Western breakfast favorites. There was certainly no shortage of choice, and I appreciated the mix of local and international offerings. While the breakfast was solid overall, I didn’t find the quality of the food particularly exceptional compared to some of the best luxury hotel breakfasts I’ve experienced. Still, it was a pleasant and convenient way to start the day.

RESTAURANTS NEARBY

If you’re looking for good food in walking distance, here are some Eat My Critique approved options:

Bab El Nil (On-site) – The hotel’s Egyptian restaurant quickly became one of my favorite dining spots. Traditional Egyptian dishes, beautiful Nile views, and a lively atmosphere make it worth visiting even if you’re not staying at the hotel.

Zooba (15 minutes) – A modern take on Egyptian street food. Casual, affordable, and one of the best introductions to local flavors in Cairo.

Khufu’s (40 minutes) – One of Egypt’s most acclaimed restaurants, serving modern Egyptian cuisine with spectacular views of the Giza Pyramids. The setting alone makes it worth the visit.

THINGS TO DO

Giza Pyramids (40 minutes) – One of the few places in the world that truly lives up to the hype. Seeing them for the first time is unforgettable.

Grand Egyptian Museum (40 minutes) – One of the most impressive museums I’ve ever visited and an essential stop for understanding Egypt’s history.

Saqqara (45 minutes) – Home to the Step Pyramid of Djoser, the oldest large stone structure ever built and one of the most important archaeological sites in Egypt.

VERDICT

The Fairmont Nile City was one of the highlights of my time in Cairo. Between the Nile views, the exceptional gym, the rooftop pool, the spacious suite, and the strong dining options, it offered exactly what I was looking for after long days exploring Egypt. So, is it worth $300 per night? I would say yes. The rooms lean more toward classic luxury than modern design, but the combination of location, amenities, service, and some of the best Nile views in the city make it a strong value. If you’re looking for a luxury hotel in Cairo that balances comfort, convenience, and a genuine sense of place, Fairmont Nile City is an easy recommendation.
